Curriculum Intent

Rooted in our core values of Ambition, Determination, and Respect, our curriculum places inclusion at its heart. We are committed to ensuring every learner, regardless of background, need, or starting point, can access a challenging, literacy-rich, knowledge-led curriculum that prepares them for success in a changing world. We celebrate diversity as a strength and ensure all learners feel respected, represented, and supported to thrive. 

Our Intent is shaped by: 

Ambition – to provide an increasingly challenging curriculum that raises aspirations, broadens horizons, and enables all learners to achieve highly. 

Determination – to ensure all learners, particularly the most vulnerable, are supported to overcome barriers, build resilience, and achieve well through clear progression and high expectations. 

Respect – to create a curriculum that values identity, celebrates diversity, and ensures every learner feels included, safe, and empowered to succeed. 

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum is coherently planned and carefully sequenced, enabling learners to build secure knowledge over time through clear progression and increasing challenge. We deliver exciting, engaging lessons filled with enthusiasm, where strong subject knowledge is balanced with the development of key skills. Rosenshine’s Principles and the WALKTHRUS amalgamate research theory and effective classroom practice, leading to proven outcomes. Learners experience a broad range of subjects and opportunities, supported by a strong academic foundation alongside carefully considered vocational and alternative pathways, ensuring all learners can flourish through a personalised curriculum journey. 

Our Implementation reflects our values through: 

Ambition - ambitious curriculum design with strong sequencing and subject depth engaging learning experiences that develop knowledge, literacy, and cultural capital a broad and balanced offer that supports high achievement for all learners.

Determination - consistent teaching approaches that build mastery, confidence, and resilience targeted support and responsive provision to help learners overcome barriers, high expectations, reinforced through challenge, practice, and purposeful feedback. 

Respect - inclusive classrooms where learners feel valued, seen, and heard carefully adapted teaching to meet diverse needs and celebrate individuality strong relationships and routines that support learners to learn positively and collaboratively.

Curriculum Impact

Through our curriculum, learners develop into confident, informed, and engaged young people who achieve well and are prepared for the next stage of their education and life beyond South Wigston High School. Learners leave with strong knowledge, improved literacy, and the skills and character needed to succeed, including resilience, aspiration, reflection, and open-mindedness. The curriculum is continually reviewed and improved to ensure it remains ambitious, inclusive, and responsive to the needs and strengths of all learners.
